BC StudentAid Application Guide for 2026

BC StudentAid is the provincial financial-aid program for Canadian residents studying in British Columbia. It combines federal and provincial loans, plus grants and bursaries you do not need to repay. The application is fairly straightforward — but missing a document or deadline can delay funding by weeks. Here is a clear, current overview for 2026.

Who is eligible for BC StudentAid

You generally qualify if you are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person; a BC resident; enrolled (or planning to enrol) in a designated post-secondary program — including most BC career college diplomas — and demonstrate financial need. Our partner colleges, including Cambria College and Granville College, are designated institutions where BC StudentAid funding can be used.

Documents you will need

Your SIN, a current government-issued ID, proof of BC residency, your Letter of Acceptance from the college, and (if applicable) your previous year's Notice of Assessment from the CRA. Married/common-law applicants and parents may also need to provide spousal or parental income information.

Loans, grants and bursaries — what is the difference?

BC StudentAid funding comes in three forms. Loans must be repaid after you finish your program (interest-free while in school). Grants are based on financial need and do not have to be repaid. Bursaries are awarded by individual colleges or third parties based on need or merit. Our Scholarship & Financial Aid service helps you identify every option you qualify for.

Key 2026 deadlines and timelines

BC StudentAid recommends applying at least 6–8 weeks before your program start date. Funding is typically released to the college in two instalments — one near the start of the term and one mid-program. Applying early also gives you time to correct any document issues without delaying your enrolment.
